recently i read an article listing the world's happiest places. of course, we all have our own very special places that invoke happy times and everlasting memories, but these countries topped the list of "happiness." To rank the countries, the New Economic Foundation uses something called a Happy Planet Index (lol...cheesy name). in reality the index only measures the life expectancy of the countries with regards to the environmental preservation of those nations. the list of the top 10 countries you can see in the picture to your right.
i know what you're thinking. i was thinking the same thing! WHERE THE HECK IS AMERRRICA? yeah well, USA didn't really fare too well (ranked 114). another trend i see is that most of the top 10 countries are Latin American countries. i want to stray from the topic a bit. i love the travel channel, i watch it everyday. whenever they do specials on Latin American countries, the people depicted in the documentaries are just so jolly. they dance, they sing, they eat, they drink.. and they do those things everyday. they're just loving life. i feel from them a sense of "just live another day, hombre" but when i watch documentaries on other high pace, high tech countries like Japan and Korean, all i see are people walking with their heads down in a fast pace probably trying get from point A to point B.
take a breather. enjoy the weather. im not telling you to like...go back to the jungle but take time to appreciate nature and life.
update: my friend almond made a good point. he told me that we cant have everything. in exchange for peace of mind, we have cars and ipods and computers, which are nice and i really cant imagine myself without those luxuries.
